If you’re like most people, you’ll no doubt store various food at home and maybe even at work. Unfortunately many people are uneducated about correct food storage and are actually prone to food poisoning if they’re not careful. One way combating this is by storing your foods in food grade containers.
You may be thinking what the difference between containers are. A container is a container right? No.
You will be surprised to know there are all sorts of types and some are food safe while others not so much. If you have kids especially it’s very important to understand the differences and that’s what today is for, to help you make the correct purchasing decision.
Depending on the food stored, most will keep their freshness for a considerable amount of time if stored in the correct food grade containers. If the container is not food safe, what you’ll find is mold and bacteria will form very quickly. The purpose of a good safe container to is to prevent outside environmental elements such as oxygen, heat, dust and moisture from coming into contact with the food. If you use food grade containers they will extend the life of your food and keep them safer for longer.
In order to know if a container is safe for food, you must do a little inspecting. Check out the label on the packaging of the container when buying it. You will want to look for direct statement saying it’s a food grade container or FDA approved. You could also ring up the manufacturer and also them directly.
A popular brand is Rubbermaid and Tupperware who both create containers for all sorts of situations. Whatever you’re looking for, they most likely have a special type which exactly suits your needs.
While plastic containers are the most popular choice for food storage, there are other options available like metal cans. These are not used by many people and one of the reasons why is because they are more expensive than plastic and are also prone to rusting. However one plus to them is that they are the strongest type and you won’t have to worry about them breaking!
There is also the choice of glass jars which are good at storing most foods and liquids (if they are food safe!), They are probably even safer than plastics but there is one big disadvantage to using glass containers. Yes you guessed it…if they drop one, they are history!
All in all, plastic food grade containers are the most inexpensive and appropriate choice in most situations and are a really handy tool to store food safely for a limited time.
If you are looking to buy some you should definitely buy your food grade containers online from a food storage business as you can usually save some money buying them online.
